We’re on track to open to tutors by the end of the month!
Yes - a week from now I *should* be able to post and say that we are able to allow our first tutors in to the site to start creating their courses ready for our January launch!
Ok, I know I’m late...
It has been about 3 weeks since I last posted a blog, and I am really sorry about that. Things have been incredibly hectic, not just with Craftucation but at home and with our parent business Ewe Felty Thing. Wales has been on a series of local lockdowns, and then tonight has started a full national lockdown for the next 17 days. The bright side of this is that we have some uninterrupted time to record and edit our Craftucation courses!
...but look what we’ve done!!
We have go SOOO much done over the last three weeks! I’ll go into them in more detail below, but just quickly, here’s a list:
- Our trademark was approved
- The website now has a functioning tutor portal which is now being linked up to the media servers.
- We’ve recorded several courses already and are busy working on even more.
- We’ve been talking to some new tutors.
- We’ve got our bounce back loan through!
- We’ve got a marketing plan!
Yup - we’ve actually started recording!
I (Nikki) have spent a huge amount of time getting set up in a mini-studio at the back of the shop. I then started recording courses ready to upload onto the site as soon as we get the go ahead from Peroosh, our web developers.
Because of the number of courses we want to put out ourselves, I have been working quite long hours in the shop getting everything ready and then filming. So far I have completed a couple of courses on felting and have started one on knitting, with many others planned. It is going really well and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I can’t wait until we are able to start showing you what we’ve done! There might even be one available before our official launch, so watch this space!!
This next week I am going to have a good go at editing what I have already recorded, and try to get even more recorded.
We are now trademarked!
Craftucation is now a trademarked name, owned by Ewe Felty Thing Ltd. We are officially Craftucation™. How cool is that?! There were several reasons for doing this, and it protects our brand so that we are able to make sure that when you see Craftucation, you know what you’re getting.
But the really big news is...
...that we are almost ready to open the doors to our first tutors!!
This feels like it has been *forever* in the building, but it really hasn’t been. It will be the end of October, and we actually came up with the idea of Craftucation towards the end of June. That’s phenomenal! From concept to here in only 4 months is just astounding, given how much is involved in what we are trying to do. That included interviewing several different web developers to find the right ones to work with, so the actual build didn’t start until the end of July!
So at the end of October, what will you be able to do?
Quite simply, we’ll be giving tutors who are ready to upload their courses the link to the site on the development server. Please note that the site is still in development and those joining us at this point will be joining us as testers, so not everything will be working fully yet. We need to do this so that these first tutors can give us feedback and we can make sure that everything works the way it needs to.
Through this link to the development site, they will be able to register and then start building their course properly using our tutor portal. It should be a simple process and we will be able to talk you through the entire thing.
There is still plenty of time to sign up as a tutor!
Don’t worry if you haven’t signed up to our tutor mailing list yet, or if you haven’t joined our tutor Facebook group, or even made contact with us at all. You still have plenty of time!!
We are launching in January, so that is still over 2 months in which to create and upload your course and still join us for our launch.
If you’re not sure what is involved or whether you’d like to be involved, please just talk to us and we’ll help in any way we can. We really want this to work for everyone. Remember that we are artists and crafters ourselves. This is being created so that we can all have a better platform to use for online art a craft courses, somewhere that tutors and students can both get the most out of it. We want to help and we want to make sure that everyone gets the best out of the site. So just talk to us if you have any concerns or would like to know more about anything. We’re not scary - honest!

So, what’s next?
Loads! We’ve been in meetings for most of today about the website, marketing, and some other fab ideas about things that we can create to help you get the most out of your Craftucation courses.
Next week we will be meeting with our marketing agency — The Smart Bear — to get everything started on the marketing side. We have a plan now, it’s just getting things implemented.
I will be editing and recording courses for most of the week, and am hoping to have at least 3 finished courses by the end of it.
And then at the end of the week we’ll be able to start letting everyone in!!
We can’t wait!!!
