Come on in!
As you can hopefully tell, we’re no longer a holding site and you can now see the lovely courses that we have on offer!
We are really delighted to be able to start welcoming you in to our site, so if you’re new to us, and to what Craftucation offers, I thought I’d do a bit of an introduction.
Who are we?
Craftucation, the online version, was an idea that I had in 2020. I’ll explain a bit more after you’ve met the team. Ewe Felty Thing, an independent yarn shop in Llandudno, UK was founded by me, Nikki Small, and I run it together with my business partner Wendy Collins and with Ann-Marie Warren.
We have also been joined by the wonderful Colin Abercrombie and Graeme Attkins who run Peroosh and have created this fabulous site for us; Sarah Steinhoefel of The Smart Bear who is our fantastic marketing manager, and most recently the lovely Amy Cook who has joined the team as a VA to help us keep on top of everything.
We are all artists and crafters and have a passion for creativity. As you can see, we are a small team and so to have gone from coming up with the idea, back at the end of June 2020, to being able to launch in mid February 2021 has been an incredible achievement.
The idea for Craftucation came when we realised that with the pandemic taking hold we would not be able to hold any of our normal classes or courses in the shop. We looked around for a way to move our courses online but couldn’t find a suitable option to enable us to do so. We also realised that many other tutors would be in exactly the same boat — with no income and no way to reach those who were desperately wanting to learn or improve their skills.
Who are our tutors?
Our tutors are a wonderful group of dedicated independent artisans. Some are people who we knew before the days of Craftucation, and others are people we have been lucky enough to meet along our journey. They have all trusted us and spent a long time creating their courses ready for launch. We hope to have many more creating and uploading their courses for you very soon, so keep an eye on the course catalogue as it will continue to grow as time goes on! If you would like to join us as a tutor, please click on the Teach heading in the top menu for all of the information.
How does Craftucation work?
The whole ethos behind Craftucation is that we want to be a supportive and collaborative community. When you purchase one of our courses, as well as having access to all the course videos, notes and downloads, you will also automatically get added into a course forum where you can interact with your tutor as well as your peers and gain support. The idea is to make it as close as possible to the atmosphere of taking courses in person, with the same banter and interaction and feedback that you would expect if you were in the room together. You will be able to share pictures of how your project is progressing, get help if it goes wrong or if you don’t understand, and share all your winds. You’ll also be able to see how others taking the course are progressing and help each other along.
We also have a range of general access forums which we would encourage you to be a part of. Once you have registered on the site you can post in any of these forums, sharing your creative ideas or just having a good catch up!
We really hope that you are as excited by all the opportunities that this new site creates as we are! We can’t wait to get to know you all so go grab a cuppa and some cake and join in!
